U.S. Senator Todd Young: Families deserve education choice and excellence

The Mind Trust works with leaders at local, state, and national levels to accomplish our mission of ensuring every student in Indianapolis and beyond has access to a high-quality education. Policymakers play a key role in advancing policies that ensure all families can choose the school that best meets their needs.

The Mind Trust, Institute for Quality Education, and EdChoice recently met with U.S. Senator Todd Young to learn how his office can continue to help improve educational outcomes for all Hoosier students and families.

The Mind Trust, IQE, and EdChoice are proud to share a message from Senator Young below.

Education is the single best pathway for creating opportunity in America. And there’s no better tool to drive excellence and innovation in education like giving parents and children the freedom to choose what type of education best fits their needs.

For decades, Hoosier families and school choice advocates have worked hard to position our state as a national leader in education. Hoosier kids are better off for it.

In Indiana, education policy is debated and decided where it should be – at the state and local level. That being said, I’m proud of the work we’re doing in Washington to support our common goal of ensuring every American child has access to a quality education.

At the beginning of this Congress, I helped to introduce the Educational Choice for Children Act in the Senate. The bipartisan legislation would expand education freedom and opportunity for students by providing more families with critical educational resources that will empower them to make decisions that will help shape their children’s future.

There are nearly two million students in elementary or secondary education settings, including homeschoolers, who are eligible to receive these resources, which can be used for necessities like tuition, fees, and supplies.

Recently, I met with school choice stakeholders, including The Mind Trust, to learn more about the transportation challenges that present barriers for families seeking education options for their children. I am committed to championing federal solutions that will help overcome these barriers.

Americans enjoy choice, accountability, and the freedom to decide what’s best for our families in almost every area of our lives. Education should be no different.

Supporting education options for students isn’t a partisan issue. Every student deserves the hope of an excellent education and the opportunity to build a better future – no matter their background or zip code.
