The Mind Trust hires two new staff to support expansion in Connecticut and nationally

(November 1, 2024) – The Mind Trust, an Indianapolis-based education nonprofit, today announced the hiring of two staff members, who will support national school incubation and expansion initiatives. Martin Green has been hired as Partner, National Expansion, and Georgia Lieber has been hired as Partner, North Star Fellowship.

“Martin and Georgia bring exceptional leadership and passion for student achievement to our team. They will ensure our organization’s values are core to our work outside of Indiana and will play pivotal roles in our national expansion efforts. While The Mind Trust will always remain focused on Indianapolis, I am excited for what our team can accomplish for students and families in communities across the country,” said Brandon Brown, CEO of The Mind Trust

Green and Lieber will support The Mind Trust’s work to grow high-quality schools and create more equitable academic opportunities across the nation’s education landscape. Since 2006, The Mind Trust has supported the launch of more than 50 public charter and innovation network schools that currently serve more than 22,000 students

In 2022, the organization launched Indiana Learns, the state’s tutoring grant program, on behalf of the Indiana Department of Education. Indiana Learns has served more than 20,000 Hoosier students who have completed over 180,500 hours of math and reading tutoring. The Mind Trust also manages Summer Learning Labs, which provides accelerated learning and enrichment to students who need access to high-quality summer programming in 5 cities across Indiana. Since launching in 2021, students participating in Summer Learning Labs have achieved double-digit learning gains in math and reading.

New staff to support The Mind Trust’s growth nationally

After almost two decades of impact in Indianapolis and across Indiana, The Mind Trust is expanding its team to serve students nationwide. This summer, The Mind Trust announced a partnership to grow new charter schools in Connecticut. The North Star Fellowship is modeled after The Mind Trust’s fellowships that support leaders in developing and launching charter schools in Indianapolis.

In addition to work that supports the growth of high-quality charter schools, The Mind Trust is also well-positioned to support, as part of our national expansion, the creation and implementation of programs outside of Indiana that accelerate student learning.

Martin Green, Partner, National Expansion

As Partner, National Expansion, Martin Green will lead The Mind Trust’s efforts to scale its successful school growth incubator programs, alongside any other programmatic expansion work opportunities, to new geographies outside of Indiana. In this role, alongside the Chief Strategy Officer and the Senior Vice President of Policy & Strategic Partnerships, Green will be responsible for identifying and cultivating other new geographies in which to grow The Mind Trust’s programmatic work.

Previous to joining The Mind Trust, Green served as the Academy for Urban School Leadership’s Chief of National Expansion & Impact. During this time, he led the establishment of LiberatED Way, a community-driven school transformation partner that works with schools and districts in 8 cities and impacts over 50,000 students annually.  Before that, he led an array of strategic teaching and learning priorities at Tulsa Public Schools and worked as a manager at Deloitte Consulting. He is a graduate of the Broad Residency in Urban Education, has an MBA from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and a bachelor of arts in Comparative Literature from Williams College.

Georgia Lieber, Partner, North Star Fellowship

As Partner, North Star Fellowship, Georgia Lieber will support the launch of and lead a statewide charter school incubator on behalf of The Mind Trust. In this role, Lieber will create and implement strategies for the North Star Fellowship program’s incubation of high-quality schools to serve students and families throughout the state of Connecticut and serve as the main point of contact between The Mind Trust and Latinos for Educational Advocacy and Diversity (LEAD), alongside other partners.

Before joining The Mind Trust, Lieber worked as the Director of Development and Outreach at Cold Spring School in New Haven, CT where she increased giving goals by 213%. Prior to that, Lieber served as a Consultant and Senior Project Manager at SchoolWorks, LLC. She has worked in several educational leadership positions with some titles including consultant, writer, reporter, project manager, and history teacher/5th grade-level chair. She has also held several board positions for Connecticut organizations like Students for Educational Justice and Horizons at The Foote School to name a few. She holds a master of teaching degree from Simmons College and a bachelor of arts in history from Yale University.
