Indy Summer Learning Labs opens application for 2025 summer instructional staff positions

Approximately 350 licensed teachers and classroom aides will be hired to provide instruction this summer; competitive compensation and training will be offered.

(February 12, 2025) – Indy Summer Learning Labs (ISLL), a five-week, free, or low-cost academic and enrichment summer program, is now hiring teachers and classroom assistants for summer 2025 programming. The program will hire approximately 350 instructional staff who will deliver and support English Language Arts (ELA) and math instruction. The Mind Trust recruits, selects, and places teachers at community-based sites, while school sites retain autonomy over hiring for their respective campuses. ISLL is proud to offer competitive compensation and support to ensure a strong teacher experience.

ISLL serves students who will be in grades 1-9 following the summer break. This year’s program will run from June 16 to July 18, 2025 at about 50 school and community-based locations across Marion County. Since 2021, the program has consistently delivered double-digit learning gains in both math and reading for participating students.

“As we enter year five, the need for high-quality summer academic programming to accelerate student learning is even more critical. Indy Summer Learning Labs provides thousands of Indianapolis students with the opportunity to strengthen their skills, bridge academic gaps, and build confidence for the school year ahead. We are committed to hiring passionate educators who make a lasting impact on our students. ISLL instructional staff are essential to driving measurable learning gains and ensuring families see the value and success of the program,” said Jazmin Sanders, Director of School Support and Out-of-School Programs.

ISLL instructional staff roles and requirements

Students are most impacted when taught by licensed teachers who can fully utilize a high-quality math and reading curriculum. Instructional staff will receive student materials and support from ISLL Academic Deans. The program is hiring for three roles: supervising teachers, ELA and math teachers, and classroom assistants. The time commitment for all instructional staff is around 25 hours per week and five hours per day. This estimate factors in one week of training and five weeks of program instruction. You must be present on all designated training and programming days to receive compensation.

Applicants who are interested in being considered for more than one role must complete each application in full. Previous ISLL instructional staff must complete the application in its entirety.

Supervising Teachers will oversee all grade-level teachers and classroom assistants at a community-based ISLL site. They will work collaboratively with Academic Deans to ensure students are receiving high-quality instructional support. They will also ensure pre- and post-assessments are administered and entered into the assessment platform, support managing attendance, and serve as a substitute for their ISLL site. Supervising teachers will be paid $55 per hour.

Supervising teacher applicants must submit all of the following documents with their application form. Applications without required documents will not be considered.

  • Resume in PDF format
  • Current CPR/AED certification
  • Current teaching license certification
  • One letter of recommendation

ELA (English Language Arts) and Math Teachers will lead one grade level of at least 10 students within their certified content area at community-based sites. They will be provided with scripted lesson plans via Lavinia’s platform, materials, and assessments to support students in their grade level group. ELA and math teachers will be paid $50 per hour.

ELA and math teacher applicants must submit all of the following documents with their application form. Applications without required documents will not be considered.

  • Resume in PDF format

Classroom Assistants will assist across grade levels for both ELA & math and pull small groups to tier instruction. This role is a strong fit for a college student pursuing a degree in education or someone with prior experience in youth program support.

Classroom assistant applicants must submit all of the following documents with their application form. Applications without required documents will not be considered. Classroom assistants will be paid $25 per hour.

All instructional staff hired by the program must pass a background check process and participate in pre-program training from June 9-13, 2025. Some sites may have additional requirements, such as: TB Test, Fingerprints, Drug Test, Childcare iLEAD certification, and State Background Check. Applicants must also have a laptop to access the Lavinia curriculum for instruction and to track and submit the required daily attendance and student assessment scores.
